What
were the
requirements
?
It was evident in this project the need for a new look for the public administration website. The previous layout had grown disordely. Over the years it had become outdated and with many usability problems.
The large amount of information to be published no longer made the client’s task easy to complete.
The main motivation for building this new site, however, was to make it easier for editors to publish new content faster and without the need for a lot of technical knowledge, in addition to making public documents of interest to the general population available.
What was accomplished?
To achieve the goals of this endeavor, I built a layout based on a top menu with all the submenus separated by interest’s areas, leading the user to find what he was looking for more quickly. On the homepage, as requested by the client, I adopted a banner rotation system to promote the city and, just below, a navigation system between the latest news and information.
I created a plugin for this project to facilitate the organization and granting of access to files that could be sent directly to an encrypted folder outside the root of the site’s file system, increasing the overduct security for folders that could become restricted according to the group of logged in or visiting users. Finally, I added the possibility of performing this task also through the front-end, being also possible to edit the descriptions and file’s metadata.
